Integrative Counselling is a combined approach to psychotherapy bringing together different elements of specific therapies, believing there is no single approach to treat each individual.
There are lots of different ideas about what counselling is. Psychotherapy can cause fear. Will someone take over my mind? Will I get advice? Counselling or Psychotherapy are neither of these things. Most people, when they can talk openly about how they are really feeling, usually find a sense of relief and feel heard for the first time. This in itself can be very powerful, motivating us to accept ourselves and/or create a different way of being in our world which is still you but a you who may have been hidden for years, fearing judgements from others, even yourself!
Another idea about counselling is that it is all about going into the past. Sometimes we look at the past to make sense of the present only so the now can be truly lived. Really the work is all about the present and what is going on for you, for possibly a long time. Its about you, your heart, mind, body and soul.
