If we can live and be in the moment, even if the moment isn't how we would want it to be, we can be freedup to have more energy to live. Sounds weird? Most of us are so busy trying to control our feelings or stuff them down (viewing them as not acceptable to us or others), we can become exhausted, confused and without hope. Sometimes we dont even know how we feel anymore.
When we learn to accept ourselves, identify and connect with our feelings, we connect to our true inner selves and others more deeply and authentically. Instead of using our feelings to just rate a situation, we can start to using our feelings to create. This leads to a more fulfilling life, even in painful circumstances.
The paradox is the journey to finding ourselves can be both painful and exhilarating all at the same time. Yes, conflicting! Talking about things we wouldn't usually voice, having someone to listen without an agenda, or talking about things we may have forgotten about, can wake us up. Having someone to hear us in a safe space can be so freeing in itself. Lots of clients feel more empowered to live and be themselves.
Therapy can also help us learn which patterns of thinking and behaviour we may have implemented in our lives, for various reasons, which can affect our interpersonal relationships in the here and now profoundly. In effect, we can be responsible for creating the very thing we don't want without realising it!
