'Many people suffer from the fear of finding oneself alone, and so they don't find themselves at all' - Rollo May
The healing that can come from finding oneself is truly amazing if one is willing to face the fear and courage to embark on one's journey. Eventually it can result in great freedom from fear in facing aloneness and finding who we truly are as humans.
'You cannot find yourself by going into the past, you find yourself by coming into the present' Echart Tolle. Relationship counselling counsellor Sandhurst Berkshire GU47.
Counselling can help us live in the here and now even though we are all affected by the past. Some misundersand the reason why a therapist asks about their past, not feeling any need to 'go there'. It really is more about what is coming up for us when we talk about the past, what are we still carrying? This awareness, which becomes finely attuned with regular therapy, is the heart of the matter in helping us live in present. Therapy is about opening your body, mind, heart and spirit, slowly and safely. Coming home to self without fear enabling us to live a freer life.
'Loose your mind and come to your senses' - Fitz Perls
How true this is. When we finally 'let go' we embark on a journey to find ourselves and things start to 'make sense'. Because of past experience, we sometimes find it hard to live in the present. Counselling can help us free ourselves from the past and learn to live in the here and now. We can learn to smile again.
'Life can only be understood backwards but it must be lived forwards' - Soren Kierkegaard
The aim of looking at the past is not to re-traumatise ourselves but learn from the experience, understand how we can live differently and enjoy new experiences. Therapy can help us live now and in the future in a more healthy way. We can learn to relate to others and build functional relationships bringing more happiness and prosperity. Each day we live can be a new sea shore where the tide has washed away yesterday but first we have to walk on the sand. Come take a walk with me ...
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.' - Viktor Frankl, Psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor
'When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves' - Viktor Frankl, Psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor.
